Meet Coach J
Jarryd Dent co-founded Score Hoops 3on3 Basketball with his partner, Doniela, based on the belief that every kid deserves the chance to play sports and experience the many benefits of doing so. With finances being the #1 barrier keeping kids out of youth sports, he set out to provide a safe, fun environment that is cost effective for young athletes to learn and enjoy the game of basketball.
Jarryd brings passion and extensive experience to the program. He grew up in Gardena, California playing baseball, football, and basketball, throughout his youth, and continued in high school and college. After obtaining his MBA, he became a sports coach and trainer to share his knowledge and provide youth with resources that may have otherwise been inaccessible.
Within the Score Hoops 3on3 organization, Jarryd acts as the program and marketing director. You’ll also find Jarryd on the court with the kids, enthusiastically helping them build their skills and giving out high fives.
In his spare time, Jarryd enjoys working out, reading, and bonding with his family.
Meet Doniela
Doniela Grant co-founded Score Hoops with her partner, Jarryd. Growing up in San Diego, California, she started playing competitive basketball as a child and continued through high school.
Her experiences with the sport provided her with an intimate understanding of how staying active, learning new skills, and working with teammates can benefit a growing mind. As someone who has always had a strong desire to give back to her community, founding a basketball non-profit for children was a natural progression.
Doniela’s experiences as a youth also inspired the decision to use a 3-on-3 basketball model within Score Hoops. Traditional 5-on-5 basketball can be challenging for younger children to grasp. Doniela believes that the 3-on-3 model is easier for kids to understand and manage, enabling them to fully immerse themselves in the game, gain confidence, and have fun.
Doniela manages all of the daily operations of Score Hoops, keeping things running smoothly and efficiently.
When not supporting the organization, she enjoys traveling and spending time with her family.
