Jarryd Dent, known in the basketball community as Coach J, is the founder of Score Hoops 3on3 Basketball, a youth basketball development program focused on helping players improve decision making, spacing, and basketball IQ through the game of 3on3.
Coach J created Score Hoops after recognizing a growing gap in player development at the grassroots level. Many young athletes were playing games, but not fully understanding how the game works. By focusing on 3on3 basketball, he designed a program that breaks the game down into smaller, more teachable situations where every player must think, react, and contribute on every possession.
Through leagues, skills clinics, club teams, and school partnerships, Score Hoops provides players ages 8 to 18 with an environment where they can develop both their skills and their understanding of the game. The program emphasizes what Coach J calls “freedom within structure,” giving players clear basketball concepts while encouraging creativity and confidence.
In addition to leading Score Hoops, Coach J is a high school basketball coach, and creates educational content for coaches and players through social media and the 3on3 Hoops Nation community, where he shares drills, practice concepts, and insights on how 3on3 basketball can improve player development and translate directly to 5on5 competition.
In his spare time, Jarryd enjoys working out, reading, and bonding with his family.

Doniela Grant co-founded Score Hoops with her partner, Jarryd. Growing up in San Diego, California, she started playing competitive basketball as a child and continued through high school.
Her experiences with the sport provided her with an intimate understanding of how staying active, learning new skills, and working with teammates can benefit a growing mind. As someone who has always had a strong desire to give back to her community, founding a basketball non-profit for children was a natural progression.
Doniela’s experiences as a youth also inspired the decision to use a 3-on-3 basketball model within Score Hoops. Traditional 5-on-5 basketball can be challenging for younger children to grasp. Doniela believes that the 3-on-3 model is easier for kids to understand and manage, enabling them to fully immerse themselves in the game, gain confidence, and have fun.
Doniela manages all of the daily operations of Score Hoops, keeping things running smoothly and efficiently.
When not supporting the organization, she enjoys traveling and spending time with her family.
